Megan's Law Registration can Last a Lifetime

New Changes to Pennsylvania's Megan's Law Requires 15 year or Lifetime Registration

A conviction of almost any sexual offense triggers an investigation by the Pennsylvania Sex Offender Assessment Board for classification as a Registered Sex Offender (Megan's Law). New changes to Pennsylvania's Megan's Law in 2012 created three Tiers of Registration requirements based on the sexual offense convicted. The new Registration requirements with the Pennsylvania State Police are as follows: Tier I (15 year Registration for most minor sexual offenses), Tier II (25 years for moderate sex crimes), and Tier III (Lifetime Registration for serious sex crime convictions).

The 2012 Megan's Law changes increased the penalties for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender, and dramatically shortened the time frame in which a Registrant has to register. Failing to Register as a Sex Offender has become the new "hot" charge for law enforcement and the State Police.
